Fly Iowa 2006, Spencer Municipal Airport

Something for everyone...   June 10 & 11 at KSPW

"The Future of Aviation was Here!"

Although the weather presented challenges because of some very un-June like cold, windy, and rainy weather, Fly Iowa 2006 did indeed feature the future of aviation with as broad a range of new aircraft and avionics displays as any Fly Iowa  event in memory.  The weather on Saturday June 10 was especially daunting in that it inhibited the normal fly-in traffic that the event draws. But for the 35 to 40 pilots who attended, there were some great seminars and educational programs.

Fortunately, there was a great improvement in weather for Sunday and two air shows went off without a hitch.  Crowds of 4 to 5,000 attended each show, albeit wearing winter jackets and huddling to shelter themselves from the wind. The Red Baron Pizza Squadron wowed the audience with their flawless routines and the Vanguards and the Hoppers in their L-39 jets did as well.

Fly Iowa 2007...Des Moines International Airport?

Discussions are underway with DSM about an event to mark the 75th anniversary of the Des Moines International Airport.  The event will likely take place in late May or June, 2007. Stand-by as more news and details develop.

Fly Iowa 2008...Storm Lake

Plans are being made for Storm Lake (KSLB) to host Fly Iowa 2008 on August 9 and 10, 2008.  The program will likely draw together wings, wheels, and water and have something to appeal to everyone.
